I don’t use my heel shifter. Learned to ride using a toe shifter and see no need for the heel part. Just can’t see why I would want to move my foot position on the floorboard backward to use the heel shifter. I have tried it but didn’t care for it.
I  read a few threads about the unique distinction of both shifting methods. In my case I was quite intimidated by my first heel toe shifter experience ,thinking all the while if it caused me trouble I could always drop the heel part off. To me it was a learning experience and a clear different way to shift........but it grew on me, to the point, where if it has a floor board it gets a heel, toe. If it has a peg ,toe shifting is just fine. Running to the dmv finding ''neutral'' was a breeze...( I like to idle with the clutch out ,no traffic,)In no way am I touting its a better way, just the contrary ...it is another way to shift, lol
