I don't know if you have noticed, but several ammo company are loading some 45ACP with small pistol primers rather than Large. I have come across Federal, and Blazer Ammo that have them. I have read that Winchester has them marked with a head stamped NT which stands for Non Toxic. also some CCI,and Speer ammo also has ammo that is loaded with small primers. There are probably others. The word is that the primers are lead free and the reason they are using the small primers is that no one is manufacturing large pistol primers that are lead free. So if you have a progressive press pay special attention when separating Brass as it may cause a hick up when loading or you may also get a primer to go off as you try to press a large primer in a small primer pocket.

here is a Federal small primer hole case next to a standard large primer hole case

they are safe to reload with small pistol primers so the case is not a waste if you have a supply of them.

Thanks for that!

The only thing I load is the .500 S&W, which uses large rifle primers.

It seems that loading supplies have become so expensive that it almost does not make economic sense to go to the trouble at home anymore, but it is fun and you do (most of the time) achieve a better product at home.
