I’ve had my timing set a variety of ways and the condition always exists.

I’ve also adjusted idle jet and condition remains.

No VOES

Do you have the Keihin carb?

If it is subtle or small changes that occasionally give you a sputter or cough then I would rule out the accelerator pump since the accelerator pump is used for rapid or sudden throttle movement. The accelerator pump can be adjusted if it actually is a problem.

Jetting?

This might help if you have the Keihin.

Thanks as always

Pulling it apart today - I know - you rebuilt the entire engine but not the carb?!

Anyway, these ports on the side of the main jet housing are for fuel atomization - they are all plugged.

It had a 29.5 intermediate and a 68 main.  I called S&S and they recommended 31/72.  I have a 32/72 so I’ll clean everything up and try that out.

All cleaned up and bigger jets in.  Here is a link to recommended sizes http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hdcarb_S&S_jetting.htm

Started and warmed up.  With the air cleaner off I could see backfire on cylinder side of butterfly when the stumble pop would occur.

Retarded the timing a bit and that fixed it.  Heading out this morning to test ride.

A little more fiddling with the timing and now at 33 intermediate and 74 main jets.  Running wicked strong!  Father in law is here-very happy with it.  Doesn’t think it’s ever run this well and strong.  Good low end and around 3-4K it really comes alive.

Well I learned the pipes were hot enough to start getting runs yesterday while in shorts - ouch
