Title: How Harley-Davidson Killed Itself
Post by: HDBitchin on May 21, 2020, 05:18:48 PM
Very interesting analysis of how big tariffs in 1983 to protect their greater than 750 cc market, stock buybacks over the years and sticking with the Biker image killed Harley-Davidson.

Don't shoot the messenger!!

In all seriousness, it is a good video. It gives some reasons for what seems to be a consensus in the Power Sports industry that Harley-Davidson is on life support but maybe not dead. Are they? I think they were hurting when coronavirus hit and that is weakening them in more ways.

Reminds me of this forum thread which talked about in 2009 when HD took out a full page ad in the NY Times when Wall Street was eager to write their obituary...

Note: The words in the below flag are worth the time spent reading them.
