Here are the 3 typical ignition systems that you will see on early Harley Davidson motorcycles.

The early H-D motorcycles came with a points system and mechanical advance in various forms and shapes as the original equipment. A typical H-D point system example is seen below.

In later model years of Harley-Davidson motorcycles electronic ignition systems came into being. Generally these would follow two typical forms.

One was with everything needed packaged in the behind the gear case cover's nose cone (bottom right side of the motor) as seen below.

And a newer version that has everything in the nose cone except the ignition module and a VOES is mounted remotely and connects back to a sensor plate of the nose cone hardware.
